APPROVING AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT TO
ESTABLISH POLICIES AND PRACTICES
FOR PROTECTING AND ENHANCING THE ENVIRONMENT
WHE~, the Town of Danville has adopted fundamental environmental goals and
policies in the Town of Danville 2005 General Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville has consistently considered environmental effects as part
of any contemplated action; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable for Town decisions to be compatible with sound environmental
principles; and
WHE~, while the Town Council must consider and respect the individual rights of
citizens, businesses and organizations, it may deem the general environmental welfare the
community to have precedence in its final decisions; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council intends to base its decisions on the most accurate data
available at the time, recognizifig during the process that new data and studies may render
previous information obsolete; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville recognizes that it has limited resources, staffing and
technical expertise and therefore may require any proponent of an action with significant
environmental consequences to bear primary responsibility for providing factual data
upon which responsible environmental decisions can be made; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Danville that the Town Council hereby
reaffirms its commitment to the environment with the adoption of the following policy:
"The Town of Danville, in its capacity as a responsible governmental body, hereby affirms
as a guiding principle in its actions that the preservation and enhancement of the
environment is a primary concern."
APPROVED by the Danville Town Council at a Regular Meeting on April 2, 1991, by the
following vote:
