ADOPTING GUIDELINES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF PARK/FACILITY SIGNS
WHEREAS, the Town of Danville owns and/or operates a number of
parks and special facilities; and
WHEREAS, it is important to identify, provide directions to and
regulations for conduct at these parks and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Town has not had any previous development
guidelines regarding these identification, directional
regulatory signs; and ,
and
WHEREAS, the cost of 37 directional and regulatory signs are
$160.00 each or $5,920.00; and
WHEREAS, the individual cost for seven regular identification signs
will be $3,000.00 each or $21,000.00 and the cost of a special
identification sign for Sycamore Park will be $5,000,00; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Danville that the Town
Council hereby adopts the following guidelines fore the development
of park/facility signs in Danville as follows:
General Guidelines

Parks/facilities shall have identification signs.
Signs shall contain the Danville logo (tree and
"Danville").
Sign colors for printed signs shall be Danville Green
(or black) on a white background.
Directional and Regulatory Signs

Signs axe to be standardized (size, shape, letter style,
color).
Signs are to be utilized as deemed appropriate.
Identification Signs

Signs will not be standardized, but selected to reflect
the character of the park/facility.
Signs are to be made of wood.
The shape of the sign should be designed to provide
interest. (Simple rectangular shaped signs are generally
less interesting.)
Letters type of all park/facility signs shall be
standardized.
Lettering shouid be routed to provide perspective.
Signs should be painted in contrasting colors to increase
readability.
g. Signs should be bordered with a contrasting color (s) to
make them stand out.
h. Signs should not be placed in concrete mowing pads, but
placed in the landscaping.
i. Signs should be set off with landscape plantings.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that staff be directed to develop renderings for
new signs and present them to the Internal Operations Committee and
Town Council for review; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that $35,112.00 be appropriated from Park Fund
unappropriated balances and placed in a special account for park
sign projects.
APPROVED by the Danville Town council at the Regular Meeting on
December 4, 1990, by the following vote:
