HomeMy WebLinkAbout093-90RESOLUTION NO. 93 -90 URGING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PUBLICLY OWNED LANDFILL WHEREAS, Contra Costa County is in urgent need of additional sanitary landfill capacity for the future; and WHEREAS, a publicly owned landfill could serve as a partial solution to future solid waste disposal needs within the County and could generate substantial benefits to the public; and WHE~, the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (CCCSD) has expressed an interest in, and because of its solid waste collection and waste disposal functions has the capability to coordinate the acquisition and establishment of a public landfill site; and WHEREAS, a publicly-owned landfill would allow for direct public participation and greater public control; and WHE~, a public landfill could have substantial financial advantages to the rate payer by virtue of its non-profit nature; and WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Danville desires to encourage the establishment of a public landfill, consistent with the interests of the City's residents and Contra Costa County as a whole. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Danville, that the Town of Danville supports the establishment of a public landfill, and declares its intent to support the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District in its efforts to acquire for public landfill purposes, potential landfill sites.
