HomeMy WebLinkAbout072-90RESOLUTION NO. 72-90 RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF DANVILLE BUPPORTING AN ALLIANCE FOR YOUTH IN "CONSTRUCTING THE 218T CENTURY" WHERE&8, the Juvenile Justice - Delinquency Prevention Commission is an advisory body mandated by State Law, with local members appointed by the Superior Court; and WNEREAS, the Commission has the goal to divert youth from being processed in the overloaded juvenile justice system and has proposed an alliance between Contra Costa County and its cities to work together for the next ten years to share information and "network" on various programs that address youth issues to build a sound and healthy 21st Century; and WNEREAS, the Commission has requested support and endorsement to: a. Establish a youth development task force to assess existing services in the Town, identify areas of special concern, create programs to address solutions to these problems, act as a liaison to keep the Town Council informed about conditions of youth, and provide a vehicle to empower youth to make good choices for and about themselves and others in the community; b. Educate the community about the needs and conditions of youth, making the whole community advocates for youth; c. Bring pressure on the County, State, and Federal Governments to increase to priority of youth and families, support appropriate initiatives, consider creating fiscal partnerships with the County and State, actively pursue legislation affecting youth, and keep County Government informed of local programs; d. Participate in regional workshops two or three times a year and annually on a county-wide basis for the next ten years; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Danville does support and endorse the proposal of the Juvenile Justice - Delinquency Prevention Commission; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Youth Services Officer of the Danville Police Department is hereby designated as the Council's representative on the Youth Development Task Force.
