HomeMy WebLinkAbout042-88 RESOLUTION NO. 42-88 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF DANVILLE ADOPTING A PROGRAM OF WATER USE REDUCTION WHEREAS, Water must be managed and used efficiently so that people may live and economies may thrive without exhausting their supply of water; and EBMUD's customers are experiencing one of the driest years on record; and EBMUD has been conducting a water conservation program to reduce total water conservation program to reduce total water consumption by 12% over last year's use; and WHEREAS, Public entities as water users can provide leadership for their citizens as well as reduction in their own water use and water bills by making a visible commitment to water conservation. NOW, THEREFORE, It is hereby resolved as follows: 1. The Town Council of the Town of Danville adopt the following Water Conservation Measures as guidelines for its own use of water and direct its employees to implement these measures wherever feasible and recommend to its citizenry that they endeavor to follow the water conservation program proposed by EBMUD. Attachment WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES Building Maintenance ODeration o Repair all leaks in facilities. o Install low-flow showerheads and faucets in all Town maintained facilities. o Review general use of water in maintenance operations to determine if it can be reduced. Washing Operations o Repair all leaks in facilities. o. Reduce or avoid washing of paved areas including streets, sidewalks, buildings, etc. o Reduce or avoid storm drain and sanitary sewer flushing unless an emergency condition exists or health and safety regulations require. o Reduce water used in street sweeping, equipment and dust control operations. o Reduce frequency of equipment and vehicle washing to twice a month. Landscaping Irrigation o Repair all leaks in facilities. o Set all automatic controllers for minimum water application to maintain acceptable levels of plant health. o Avoid irrigation between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. o Postpone all new City landscaping wherever feasible until precipitation levels return to normal. o Eliminate turf from roadside landscape and medians except in small, high emphasis areas. Use plants that can be irrigated with drip or bubbler systems and require less water. o Use turf in parks in fields and play areas; reduce its use for decorative landscaping. o Use drip and bubbler irrigation whenever possible. o Install rain fall monitoring overrides in park irrigation systems. o Select drought resistant plant materials when ever possible.
