HomeMy WebLinkAbout009-88 RESOLUTION NO. 9-88 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF DANVILLE PROCLAIMING 1988 AS THE YEAR OF EUGENE O'NEILL WHEREAS, Eugene O'Neill is revered as one of the foremost dramatists and the only American playwright to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature; and WHEREAS, Mr. O'Neill lived at Tao House nestled in the Las Trampas Hills in Danville from 1937 until 1944; and WHEREAS, Tao House was his "final harbor" where his creative genius produced four of his greatest works; and WHEREAS, Tao House is one of only four homes of American writers to have the prestigious designation as a National Historic Site and part of the National Park Service; and WHEREAS, the year 1988, the centenary of Eugene O'Neill's birth will be celebrated nationally and internationally; and WHEREAS, the Town of Danville recognizes Tao House as a living memorial to Eugene O'Neill; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Danville proclaim 1988 as the Year of Eugene O'Neill in Danville. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 1st day of February, 1988 by the following vote: AYES: Greenberg, Kennett, Lane, Ritchey, Schlendorf NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None Mayor
