HomeMy WebLinkAbout089-87 RESOLUTION NO. 89-87 RESOLUTION ON IRON HORSE TRAIL WHEREAS, The Town of Danville has provided through its General Plan for a trail along the abandoned Southern Pacific Right of Way and, furthermore, participated in the construction of a section of trail called the San Ramon Valley Iron Horse Trail through the use of $230,000 in municipal and Transportation Development Act funds for bridges, bollards, fencing and signs and participated in the valley-wide planning for a trail; and WHEREAS, A goal of the Town of Danville and of the San Ramon Valley community is to build a trail along the 12.6 mile section of the right-of-way from Rudgear Road to the County line in San Ramon, passing by many schools, parks, community centers, employment centers, and providing access to other trails inside and outside the valley6; and WHEREAS, The Iron Horse Trail has been identified as having many uses valuable to the entire San Ramon Valley community, including recreational hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding, safe access to schools for children, and transportation by bicycles for commuters; and WHEREAS, A 2.7 mile section of trail was constructed by the East Bay Municipal Utility District as a mitigation measure for a previous pipeline project; and WHEREAS, The Central Contra Costa Central Sanitary District, as a mitigation measure for its pipeline installation along the right-of-way, is replacing existing trail improvements and contributing $200,000 toward upgrading and extending the trail from Rudgear Road in the North to Encinada in the south; and WHEREAS, The East Bay Regional Park District is administering the improved 2.7 mile section of the Iron Horse Trail under license with Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS, An Iron Horse Trail Master Plan is being prepared by the public and representatives of affected agencies, including the Town of Danville. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the East Bay Regional Park District is hereby designated the lead agency for the San Ramon Valley Iron Horse Trail Master Plan and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the funds available for the development of the Iron Horse Trail shall be pooled with other resources and be administered by the East Bay Regional Park District to accomplish the orderly and incremental construction of the trail.
