HomeMy WebLinkAbout038-86(c)J RESOLUTION NO. 38-86 (C) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DANVILLE SUPPORTING BOTH LANDSCAPING AND A PARK 'N' RIDE FACILITY AS PART OF THE CALTRANS/I-680 WIDENING PROJECT WHEREAS, California Transportation Commission is responsible to develop the State Transportation Improvement Program; and WHEREAS, the portion of Interstate 680 through Danville has been designated a scenic corridor, and WHEREAS, highway landscaping has long been regarded as an essential and integral part of the highway improvement program, and WHEREAS, many segments of Interstate 680 in Contra Costa County has been landscaped as part of the State Highway Beautification Program, and WHEREAS, on October 1985, the California Transportation Commission adopted a highway landscaping policy which deferred with the intention to delete all highway landscaping project unless the projects are legally required or has substantial local support, and WHEREAS, the proposed improvements to Interstate 680 in Contra Costa County includes the replacement of the existing landscaping, and WHEREAS, these landscaping replacements are proposed by the California Transportation Commission to be deleted from the project, which will result in significant environmental impact to the adjacent communities; and WHEREAS, a Park 'N' Ride facility at the intersection of 1-680 and Sycamore Valley Road will aid in the reduction of traffic congestion and promote alternate transportation systems within the San Ramon Valley area. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Danville is opposed to the deletion of the replacement landscaping on Interstate 680; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Danville supports the construction of a Park 'N' Ride facility at the intersection of Sycamore Valley Road and Interstate 680. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if funds are made available through deletion of the landscaping, they be used for construction of the Park 'N' Ride facility.
