A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DANVILLE
DESIGNATING JOHN W. MAY AS DANVILLE'S AMBASSADOR AT LARGE
WHEREAS, John W. May, member of the City Council, brought his
family to live in a rural area then known as Danville in the
year 1951; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his exemplary role as a husband and
parent, John W. May has also demonstrated the highest standards
of personal leadership, pride, and service to his community, and
WHEREAS, John May's service record is long and distinguished
including service as a member of the Board of Trustees of the
Danville Union School District, service as a member of the Board
of Directors of the San Ramon Valley Chamber of Commerce,
service as a member of the San Ramon Valley Area Planning
Committee - an advisory committee to the Contra Costa County
Board of Supervisors, and
WHEREAS, in addition to these roles, John May and the entire May
family have over the years dedicated large amounts of their
personal time for worthwhile community projects, and have also
contributed financially to fund raising efforts for scouting,
youth sports, local churches and many other special projects,
and
WHEREAS, upon incorporation of the City of Danville in 1982,
John May was elected to the first City Council; received the
highest number of votes of all other candidates; was selected as
Danville's first Mayor; and subsequently represented Danville in
the true spirit of an "ambassador" both within and outside the
community, and
WHEREAS, in 1985, John May elected not to seek re-election
thereby ending his term of office as a councilmember in December
1985.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Danville that in recognition of his unique and long
distinguished record of service to his community, John W. May,
is hereby designated as Danville's Ambassador At Large.
