HomeMy WebLinkAbout077-83 DANVILLE Town of Danville 542 San Ramon Valley Boulevard Danville, CA 94526 (415) 820-6337 RESOLUTION NO. 77-83 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DANVILLE Opposing Actions by the State of California That Would Reduce Revenues to Cities and Counties WHEREAS, all cities and counties have for many years provided services the cost of which are partially offset by subvention revenues traditionally collected by ~he State of California and distributed to cities and counties, and WHEREAS, subvention revenues constitute a major share of Zhe revenue base for some local government organizations including the City of Danville, and WHEREAS, since the adoption of Proposition 13 there is evidence to indicate that the cost of State government has continued to increase at an alarming rate and this has typically not occurred at the local government level, and WHEREAS, it appears that the California State Legislature has in adopting the 1983-84 State budget, reduced traditional local government revenues in order to absorb increased costs for operating the State government, and WHEREAS, although the State Legislature has provided a means by which alternative revenues may be increased at the local level, such revenue increases may not offset the revenues which are being lost by the States' actions and it is inappropriate that local governments should be required to increase revenues at the local level in order to help balance the State's budget. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Danville does hereby go on record as opposing the State of California's plan for revenue reductions to local government, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Manager are directed to work with other elected and administrative officials in Contra Costa County in order to develop a unified position among the County of Contra Costa and cities in the County for opposing the State's budgetary actions.
