HomeMy WebLinkAbout046-82 DANV LE Town of Danville 315 Diablo Road, Suite 111 Danville, CA 94526 (415) 820-6337 RESOLUTION NO. 46-82 IN SUPPORT OF CENTRAL COUNTY WASTE TO ENERGY PROJECT WHEREAS, Central Contra Costa County generates approximately 900 tons per day of municipal solid wastes that are disposed of at Acme Landfill; and WHEREAS, the proposed Central County Waste to Energy Project would produce electricity from 900 tons per day of municipal solid wastes and is projected to reduce the amount of solid waste going into Acme Fill by about one-half, thereby doubling the remaining life of Acme Fill and reducing the amount of wastes that would need to be disposed of at a replacement site; and WHEREAS, the proposed Central County Waste to Energy Project is planned to be financed by the private sector, eliminating the need for funding of capital costs by local government; and WHEREAS, the economic projections for the project show that it is the lowest cost alternative for solid waste disposal to Central Contra Costa County and can be expected to aid the stabili- zation of solid waste service rates for Central County residents; WHEREAS, the Central County Waste to Energy Project has been endorsed by the County Solid Waste Commission and is and is a major part of the County Solid Waste Management Plan. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Danville hereby endorses the concept of a Central County Waste to Energy project and sees the project as beneficial to the citizens of Central Contra Costa County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Danville will actively participate in the planning of this project by assigning a representative of the City/Sanitary District to represent the City/Sanitary District on the ad hoc project Planning Committee; Resolution No. 46-82 -2- AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Danville specifically reserves for future consideration, the question of the town's financial obligation to the project and determi- nation of whether we will commit our waste stream to this project.
