A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF DANVILLE
AMMENDING SIGN REVIEW AND SIGN EXCEPTION REQUESTS SR 90-4
DANVILLE SQUARE SHOPPING CENTER
WHEREAS, Dewayne Ryan ihas requested ammendments to the previously approved sign
program SR 90-4 for the Danville iSquare shopping center; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission did review the request at a noticed public hearing
on August 28, 1990; and
WHEREAS, the proper notice of this request was given in all respects as required by law;
and
WHEREAS, the request is .exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental
Quality Act (CEQA); and
WHEREAS, a staff report was submitted recommending that Planning Commission approve
the request; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission did hear and consider all reports, recommendations,
and testimony submitted in writing and presented at the hearing;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLV-ED THAT the Planning Commission of the Town of Danville
approves the ammendments to SR 90-4, per the conditions contained herein, and makes the
following findings in support of the sign program:
The proposed signage is compatible with character and design of the exterior architecture
and existing signage on the'. structure on which it is proposed to be located.

The location of the proposed signage will not impair the use of the property or conflict
with visibility.
The proposed signage will not adversely effect the health, or safety of persons residing
or working in the vicinity, or be injurious to property, or improvements in the area.
The proposed signage does. not excessively compete for the public's attention nor impact
the use of the property or conflict with visibility.
5. The proposed signage is no larger than necessary for adequate identification.
The proposed signage will :serve to primarily identify the business established or type of
activity conducted on the premises.
CONDITIONS
1. The signage shall be installed in full conformance with the plans dated received May 3,

1990, and August 1, 1990 on file with Planning Application File SR 90-4, consisting of three
sheets, except as modified by these conditions.
No new signs shall be internally illuminated. The source of any indirect lighting shall be
screened from view of any public street and shall be installed in such a manner that glare
is directed away from surrounding properties and fight-of-ways. Details of said lighting
fixtures and intensity, shall be subject to review and approval by the Planning Division
prior to installation.
The existing soffit light fixtures in the Trader Joe's building shall be modified and/or
replaced to screen the exposed bulbs from parking lot. The final lighting solution shall
be subject to review and approval by the Planning Division prior to installation.
Use of a monument sign for the shopping center is expressly prohibited due to the high
visibility of the blade sign.
The project sign program for all facia signs for the rear building shall conform with the
following provisions:
Each tenant sign lettering shall not exceed 14" in height. The lettering style may
vary from tenant to tenant.
Lettering colors for each tenant sign shall be consistent with the project sign plans.
All sign lettering shall be equally centered top to bottom on the shingle signs.
The existing monument sign located on Danville Boulevard, identifying the subject site
and the U.S. Post Office, shall be removed prior to installation of any sign contained in
this sign program.
The repainting of the Trader Joe's building shall be coordinated with the rear building
and the final colors of the building shall be subject to review and approval by the
Planning Division. The colors for Trader Joe's signage shall be compatible with the
building colors utilized and shall be subject to review and approval by the Planning
Division.
The applicant shall work with staff (and referred to the Design Review Board if necessary)
to incorporate the second major tenant signage on the blade sign design. The final
design shall be subject to review and approval by the Planning Division.
Because of the unique architecture in this area, a wall sign for the tenant of 21 Danville
Square (the most northerly tenant space) may place a wall sign, otherwise in conformance
with the requirements for other tenant signs, on the parapet between the two roof lines.
The proposed sign shall be submitted to the Design Review Board for final approval.
