THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DANVILLE DOES
ORDAIN as follows:
Section 1. Title 2 of the Danville Municipal
Code is amended by adding a new chapter 4 to read as
follows:
"CHAPTER 4
GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
Section 2- 401 Date of Election
Section 2- 402 Approval Required
Section 2- 403 Expiration of Terms of Office
Section 2- 404 Conduct of Succeeding General Municipal
Elections
Section 2- 401. Date of Election. The General
Municipal Election for the City of Danville shall be held
on the same day as th~ election required by Section 2602
of the Elections Code for School Districts - the first
Tuesday after the firs~ Monday in November of each odd-
numbered year beginning with the election to be held
in November of 1983
Section 2- 402. Approval Required. This
Chapter shall take effect and become operative after its
approval by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.
Section 2- 403. Expiration of Terms of Office.
Pursuant to Section 36503.5 of the Government Code, those
elected Council Members whose terms of office would have,
prior to the adoption of this ordinance, expired on the
Tuesday succeeding the second Tuesday in April of 1984
and 1986 shall, instead have their terms of office decreased
and shall continue in office until no later than the fourth
Tues,~ay after the day of the General Municipal Election in
[983 and 1985 respectively.

Section 2- 404. Conduct of Succeeding General
Municipal Elections. The Municipal General Election in
1983 and each Municipal General Election thereafter shall
be conducted on the date specified by this Chapter, in
accordance with Section 36503.5 of the Government Code,
unless this Chapter is later repealed by the City Council."
Section 2. The City Clerk is directed to
transmit a certified copy of this ordinance to the County
Board of Supervisors, requesting approval of the
consolidation.
Section 3. Within thirty (30) days after
this Chapter becomes operative (under Section 2- 402),
the City Clerk shall cause a notice to be mailed to all
registered voters informing the voters of the change in
the election date. The notice shall also inform the
voters that, as a result of the change in the election
date, elected city officeholders' terms in office will
be shortened.
Section 4. This ordinance is declared to be
an urgency ordinance and is for the immediate preservation
of the public peace, hcalth, safety and welfare. This
ordinance takes effect immediately. The facts constituting
the urgency are that state legislation is currently being
considered that would establish an earlier filing date for
elections, thereby requiring an immediate decision of
the City Council regarding its intentions.
Section 5. Within 15 days after passage of this
ordinance, the City Clerk shall have this ordinance
posted in the three public places designated by
Resolution of the City Council.
The foregoing ordinance was introduced at a
meeting of the City Council of the City of Danville held
on May 26th , 1983, and was adopted by the
City Council on May 26th , 1983, by the
following vote:
Ayes: May, Lane, Mc Neely, Offenhartz, Schlendorf
